The much-anticipated third season of The Hundred is finally in full swing, with teams locked and loaded for both the women’s and men’s competitions. The player selection process, featuring an exciting Hundred Draft powered by Sage, has paved the way for a thrilling season of cricketing action. Let’s take a closer look at the squads and how they came together.
Women’s Competition Squads The Hundred 2023: The Draft and Beyond
The top eight players from each women’s team were strategically selected in the Hundred Draft, providing the foundation for each team. These players, in bold, are the cornerstones on which teams will build their strategies. But the excitement didn’t end there. Thanks to the unique open market system, teams had the option to fill the remaining seven positions on their squads by offering contracts to players of their choice within their specified salary bands.
This flexible approach added an interesting twist to the squad formation process, allowing teams to tailor their lineups to their desired strengths. As a result, we can expect this year’s women’s competition to bring together a diverse mix of talent and experience that promises to be an exciting mix of skill and strategy.
Men’s Competition Squads The Hundred 2023 : From Draft to Wildcard Selections
In the men’s competition, the top 14 players from each team were selected during the opening set draft, showcasing an intense competition for top talent. Hailed as the backbone of any team, these players are ready to light up the competition with their prowess on the pitch.
Adding another layer of intrigue, the Vitality Wildcard system entered the fray closer to the start of the competition. This innovation has made it possible to select promising unselected players who have performed exceptionally well in the 2023 domestic cricket season. This wildcard mechanism introduces an element of unpredictability as outstanding performers get a second chance to make it big on The Hundred stage.
